Aguirre was born in Santiago, Chile, in 1964. Her parents were political activists who were forced to flee the country after the military coup in 1973. The family settled in Vancouver, Canada, where Aguirre grew up in a poor neighborhood.
Despite the challenges she faced, Aguirre was determined to succeed. She excelled in school and went on to study theater at the University of British Columbia. After graduating, she began her acting career in Vancouver's theater scene.
In 1994, Aguirre landed her breakthrough role in the film Rude. The film was a critical and commercial success, and it earned Aguirre an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Since then, Aguirre has starred in numerous films and television shows, including The L Word, Battlestar Galactica, and Once Upon a Time. She has also written and directed several plays, including the award-winning play Blue Box.
The Blue Box is a memoir that is both heartbreaking and inspiring. Aguirre writes about the poverty she experienced as a child, the racism she faced as a Latina, and the challenges she overcame to achieve her dreams. The book is a testament to Aguirre's resilience and determination, and it is a must-read for anyone who is interested in the power of the human spirit.
